Look Who’s Talking About Age

The extreme right-wing and go-to-hell-non-Jesus-worshipers-Fox-News-host Bill O'Reilly called White House reporter Helen Thomas the "wicked witch of the east” just because she is old.

*Thinking here* Isn’t he on the verge of being 60 years-old? Does he think he is young? I can’t believe human beings actually watch his show and listen to his nonsense.

I watched Obama's news conference a couple of days ago and listened as Helen asked him a question. Part of her question was: "which countries in the Middle East have nuclear weapons?" Obama went into a long discussion about trying to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons technology and talked about trying to keep Iran from developing their own nuclear weapons. He then asked for the next question. However, Helen tried to interrupt him to ask again which countries in the Middle East have nuclear weapons. Obama ignored her and took the next question. Well, I was starting to wonder if Helen's mind is slipping due to old age. It is well know that Israel and Pakistan are the only Middle Eastern countries that have nuclear weapons.

Well, Pakistan is not a Middle Eastern country.

But Israel is...

You know the moment the question was asked, I wondered if Obama would utter the word Israel. Of course, he wouldn't as none of the American presidents dared to do before him. Israel is a taboo in the US. If anyone questions even its crimes, he/she will be considered anti-semetic and will be doomed for the rest of his/her life. Look what happened to Mill Gibson! He produced a true biblical story and was strongly criticized by the Israelis and the Jewish Americans, just because... he retold what the Jews did to Jesus Christ!!!!

I don't blame Obama to be honest because he will fail to even fix domestic issues if he ever crossed that line. Well, let's let him fix things and see what happens next!

I guess I have revealed my ignorance of geography. ;)

You got me thinking a bit Bassam. Maybe Helen is still very mentally sharp. Maybe she was trying to get Obama to publicly admit that Israel has nuclear weapons.

You are right, it is more or less political suicide to criticize Israel. How can there be a just peace if Israel is allowed to do whatever it wants with no consequences? Americans give Israel billions of dollars each year. America does have leverage over Israel if we would just choose to exercise it. But, any politician who tries is not likely to get re-elected.

I am waiting to hear more about the aftermath of the Israeli elections. If Zipi Livni can form a government, I will be cautiously optimistic about some real progress between Israel and Palestinians. However, if Netanyahu becomes Prime Minister again, there will be no hope, in my opinion.

As to Obama fixing things, I hope he can! However, I am rather skeptical about the huge stimulus bill. I don't think the massive tax cuts for poor and middle class people will help. They will just cause the national debt to grow at an accelerated rate.

I have to disagree with you on Mel Gibson Bassam, white people that say things like "the Jews killed Jesus" have a tendency to think that "the Jews" (and others)are all out to get them, the guy later proved to blurt out other offensive things about Jews later.

Thank god he never criticized Israel, because I don't want to agree with a man like that about anything. There is a difference between criticizing the Israeli government and bigotry against Jews of course, but Gibson is a clear example of only the latter.

Helen Thomas on the other hand is an example of someone who is awesome.

bassam, i didn't see that gibson film because i don't like blood and guts movies, but i have to agree w/nadia. gibson follows some outdated radical form of catholicism. i am not certain if that in itself is anti semetic but when he got pulled over when he was drunk he started spewing these anti semetic statements which pretty much spilled the beans on his rationality. people don't just get drunk and 'accidently' spew racist crap from the ozone. chances are he has anti jew sentiment, in a town filled w/jews, in an industry filled w/jews. it is pretty hard to ever live that down. it isn't like he can check into the betty ford center and come out reformed 3 weeks later. granted, it was during israels 06 massacre of lebanon, and i know from experience how when i am aware a massacre is occurring it can make me very tense, angry and irrational for days, but i can't think of a time i ever confused horrible foreign policy of a state, for all the people that state supposedly represents. otherwise i would have to walk around and be angry at americans all the time!

anyway, mel made a big apology.

the press went crazy over it. can you imagine if some drunk actor went on a rant about arabs? the entire right wing would be cheering for him. total double standard. remember when mcCain responded to a woman calling obama an arab w/ "No, ma'am, He's a decent family man"

can you imagine what a storm if he had said, no he's not jewish, he's decent!

btw

helen is awesome! sorry for getting off topic.

Very very poor post here Bassam, totally unlike you.

"people don't just get drunk and 'accidently' spew racist crap from the ozone. chances are he has anti jew sentiment, in a town filled w/jews, in an industry filled w/jews. it is pretty hard to ever live that down"

It's something that has dogged Christianity, as it has Islam, for centuries. I still don't understand how Catholics can honestly blame Jews for killing Christ if one cannot 'blame a son for his father's sins' (even if I don't believe we sinned).

"can you imagine if some drunk actor went on a rant about arabs? "

Diverter extraordinaire ... you're good at this!

Hey, Bassam,

so you love O'Reilly, eh?

Sort of find him irresistable, right?

Who could blame you.
