massive wow
it is 12:01 on the west coast as i write this. probably later when i finish because i know what i have to say may take some pondering wrt the wording...but it's officially christmas, and this is what is on my mind.
i went to the video store today not knowing what i wanted to watch w/some family members. when i saw the title i cringed as i have before when i have resisted seeing this movie. but tonight i knew i would have the courage to watch it (did you ever know what a cowardly person i can be, when i am faced w/the realities). so i rented it. i have known about this movie for a long time, and of course i have known these things exist.
in honor of all the innocent people in the world who have been held captive, who tonight are held captive away from their families, for all the innocent people who have been tortured, for every one of them tonight on christmas eve i watched 'rendition'.
a little part of me knew all along had the wife been middle eastern, we would not have had the same sympathies. a little part of me knew all along had the husband not spoken w/a clear american accent we would not have had the same sympathies.
a little part of me knew all along there were many things in the script designed to make us relate, to sympathize. but also i very big part of me knows many many innocent muslims, or innocent people of muslim heritage, have suffered beyond imagination in the war against them, which we call the war on terror.
and it is for them that i wish a prayer this christmas. for i know if christ were alive today he would be praying for them too.
