Donation

Our wonderful and great friends, Fayrouz and Mad Canuck suggested something noble. Few days ago, I received an email from both of them suggesting starting a donation for Mrs. Enwiya, Allan’s widow. They are going arrange with me and 24 Steps to Liberty by end of the month on how to send her the money.

We know that money will never bring Allan back to life but remember, he left a widow with two children. They have to live in Iraq alone in the middle of this terrible situation. So, few dollars would make a difference in their situation. Moreover, this would make Mrs. Enwiya proud of her husband because what you are going to do is a message to her that her husband did not die of nothing and that there are people in the world that care about his heroic death.

On my first entry about Jill’s kidnapping and Allan’s terrible assassination, I received a comment from Lisa Ramaci, Steven Vincent’s wife saying that the Steven Vincent Foundation will donate $500 to Mrs. Enwiyah, and if they can scrape some more money together, they will add to that total.

Thanks a lot Lisa. I am really speechless. The whole world is honored of knowing how great you are and how your late husband, the hero, died for the sake of revealing the truth and the word of righteous.
Thank you to all the people who are trying to wipe at least one tear drop of Mrs. Enwiya.

Guys, we count on you.

Treasure,
Just a few minutes ago on CNN there was a program called Reliable Sources. I saw the last few minutes of it. They had a discussion about journalism in Iraq and the kidnapping of Jill Carroll and the blackout period that followed. The host moderated a discussion between Jackie Spinner, Michael Ware, and one other reporter.
The transcripts for this program are generally posted here:
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/rs.html
(but this show just finished and so the transcript is not there yet)
The reporter from Texas wondered whether there was a double standard in that the press did not report right away that a journalist was kidnapped.
Jackie Spinner responded that she would consider a similar request for any person.
Spinner said the insurgents consider western journalists to be part of the infidel conspiracy (words to that effect--hey, I am not a journalist!) and that reporters get no immunity.
Somebody suggested that security should be mandatory. She said there was always a debate about whether to have bodyguards, whether to go in a soft vehicle or a hard vehicle.
Michael Ware said Iraq is an incredibly difficult place to get the story because you have the government, the insurgents, and the military all obfuscating and spinning the story vigorously--and also the threat environment.
Ware believed that the best thing was to open a channel of dialog as soon as possible, and that widespread media coverage might make things more difficult in the immediate time after (so he agreed with the request of the CS monitor).

Anonymous,

Thanks for mentioning this to me. I will read the transcript when they publish it.
Anyway, I wonder what this Texas reporter was thinking of when she thought that there is a double standard in that the press did not report right away that a journalist was kidnapped. She should have known that all the colleagues, whether Iraqis or Americans were trying to rescue her, not to put her in danger. As Michael Ware said, widespread media coverage might make things more difficult in the immediate time.

I believe that the continuous coverage of the media, Arabic or western, would encourage the insurgents to do something bad towards any hostage, including journalists. That was one of the things that encouraged them when Aljazeera kept showing them beheading the western hostages, one after the other. Media plays a big role in encouraging these insurgents to do whatever they like because there would be always a channel to broadcast what they are practicing.

I sure wish the best for your friend and fellow journalist.

They had a very similar discussion on Fox Newswatch, yesterday. They spent about 15 minutes discussing Jill and Alan and the international press reaction. Their consensus of opinion was the press should do whatever is necessary when somebody's life is in danger, which I thought was a good conclusion.

Treasure,

Do you have any contacts in the Arab satellite news channels like Al-Jazeera, Al-Aribiya, Iraqiya, etc?

Maybe they could make stores saying how much Jill loves Iraqi and Arab culture. Maybe they would understand she is an innocent young woman. Is there some Sunni religious authority that could be consulted?

Jill is still alive...
Dear Lord have your angels surround Jill, comfort her, and protect her body and spirit... let her feel your holy presence...
Place a tremendous burden on the hearts of the terrorist/kidknappers, soften their their hearts... I pray for Jill to be released by Your almighty power... Amen

I said a prayer for her, her family and all her friends, like you.

Of course, I prayed for Alan's family as well to be safe and to have a benefactor to help them in their time of need and sorrow.

May God hold them in the palm of his hand.
